Cirque du Soleil: Dralion review
January 29, 2009 (The Sunday Times): The world's most famous gymnastic circus lived up to its reputation when its new production, Dralion, made its WA debut last night. Perthonalities galore turned out to be the first to see the new show, which is inspired by the four natural elements of earth, water, fire and air.
Le Maroc aux championnats d'Afrique au Caire
January 28, 2009 (Le Matin): La sélection marocaine va prendre part aux Championnats d'Afrique de gymnastique, prévus du 31 janvier au 5 février au Caire. La délégation marocaine, conduite par Mustapha Zakri, président de la Fédération, est composée du directeur technique national Abdelilah Razik et du président de la commission technique Abdeljalil Houssaini, ainsi que de Karima Sehlal (arbitre international), Karima Nadifi (entraîneur) et Allal Nasser (encadrant).

January 28, 2009 (Le Soleil): Les « Lions » de la gymnastique quittent Dakar aujourd’hui pour Le Caire (Egypte) où ils participeront du 29 janvier au 5 février 2009, aux championnats d’Afrique. Hier à Thiès, ils ont reçu la visite du ministre des Sports et des Loisirs, le Dr Bacar Dia, dans la salle de gymnase du Centre national d’éducation populaire et sportive (CNEPS) où ils sont en préparation depuis une dizaine de jours.
Young gymnasts off to Egypt
January 27, 2009 (Namibia Sport): A team of 25 gymnasts leave for Cairo, Egypt on Wednesday to represent Namibia at the ninth African Gymnastics Championships. Namibia will compete in the men’s junior and women’s junior and senior artistic competitions, and the women’s junior and senior rhythmic competitions.
Although Namibia will be represented by a young team against the continent’s best nations’ they are still hopeful of winning some medals.

Following Louis Smith's bronze at Beijing - the first British male to medal at an Olympics in 80 years - gymnastics is experiencing higher participation than ever before. German broadcaster threatens to drop small sports in Olympics standoff
January 27, 2009 (International Herald Tribune): One of Germany's two major public service broadcasters, ARD, has threatened to drop coverage of smaller Olympic sports if it is excluded from carrying the 2014 and 2016 Games.
The ARD network is a member of the European Broadcasting Union, an umbrella body whose bid for the 2014 and 2016 broadcast rights was turned down late last year by the International Olympic Committee.
IOC to launch first 'sport for peace' forum
January 27, 2009 (EurActiv): The International Olympic Committee (IOC) hopes to pool more resources to enhance the role of sport as a tool for peace-building across the globe, with the launch of the first-ever international forum on sport for peace and development on 7-8 May.
Rogge Highlights Importance Of EC Meeting
January 27, 2009 (The Sport Briefing): International Olympic Committee (IOC) president Jacques Rogge has hailed Monday’s meeting between the Olympic Movement and the European Commission (EC) as an “important step” in the bid to develop closer relations between the worlds of sport and politics. Representatives of the Olympic Movement, led by Rogge, met with Jan Figel, European Commissioner for Education, Training, Culture and Youth, and his delegation at the IOC headquarters in Lausanne.

January 26, 2009 (Sport Business International): IOC president Jacques Rogge is meeting with European Union sports commissioner Jan Figel today to discuss, among other topics, stopping European governments interfering in the affairs of NOCs.
The Around the Rings website reports that promoting and protecting the autonomy of the Olympic and sports movement has become an issue of increasing importance for the IOC in recent years.
IOC President: London 2012 shouldn't be reduced
January 26, 2009 (Xinhua): International Olympic Committee (IOC) president Jacques Rogge said Sunday that the scale of 2012 London Olympic Games should not be reduced.
Rogge said on Swiss television TSR late Sunday that London 2012 did not overshot its budget, the London organizing Committee was simply resorting to a reserve fund after planned use of private sector funding for the Olympic village proved to be "difficult."

Ainsi le trophée de l’intégration africaine revient à la fédération internationale de Gymnastique.
