Steward: Livermore duo looks
for World gold in 'acro"
May 14, 2009
(Berryessa Sun): Finding the right partner is crucial to any successful
collaborative venture, and that was never truer than for Kristin Allen and
Michael Rodrigues in the fast-growing sport of acrobatic gymnastics. They
might seem mismatched at first. Allen is just 16 while Rodrigues is 26,
and Michael is more than a head taller. But in "acro," as it is commonly
referred to in the gymnastics world, they discovered a special alchemy
that made them international-class performers. In October, Allen and
Rodrigues took the silver medal in the mixed pairs competition at the
Acrobatic World Gymnastics Championships in Glasgow, Scotland, missing the
gold by less than three-hundredths of a point. In April, they were silver
medalists again at the 2009 Acro Cup in Albershausen,
Germany. | ||
