The apparently disturbed relationship between the IAAF and IOC …November 7, 2208 (sport intern): … finds its expression in a Blog from IAAF President Lamine Diack published on the IAAF homepage, which is headlined: “London Olympic legacy must respect athletics”. Among other issues, Diack makes reference to a remark by IOC president Jacques Rogge who, a few days ago, in an interview with the BBC with respect to the post-Olympic use of London’s main Olympic Stadium declared: “We should avoid leaving white elephants and if the best solution is to transform the track into something else then we would be in favour of that”. Lamine Diack announces a forthcoming meeting to take place with the IOC President, at which the awarding of the European TV rights to the 2016 Games will probably also be a theme. At the IAAF there is apparently anxiety that the IOC’s partnership with the European Broadcasting Union, which has existed for decades, is threatening to break up. Other federations apparently also fear that in the wake of a possible break of the IOC from the EBU, contracts for individual sports might also be in danger. |
